New Leader of Year 7 and Transition In September 2016, I will be taking over as Leader of Year 7 from Mrs Harte and look forward to meeting parents and pupils. Mrs Harte has not gone anywhere, but will be taking on a new role in school as Assistant Headteacher and SENCO. New Blog One of the ways to I will keep you informed will be this new Year 7 Blog. The blog aims to keep Year 7 pupils and parents up-to-date with news and information affecting your year group. This will launch fully in September. Get Ready for KEVI For now, if you have any questions about starting at your new school in September, why not visit our brand new dedicated transition website, Get Ready for KEVI. On there you will find FAQs about starting at high school and our answers to them, information about uniform, contact information and what happens on the first day. Don't forget about our Summer Club too! I look forward to meeting all new Year 7s on 7th September! Hope you all have a relaxing Summer break. Kind regards, Mr Lomas Leader of Year 7 and Transition (from September 2016) Today, Mrs Bentham will be leaving King Edward VI High School for the last time after 24 years teaching Business and Economics.
Dr Bentham, whom leaders and staff will pay tribute to on Friday, will be moving on to new and exciting opportunities at a new school from September. Before she goes, Mrs Bentham has asked the website team to find out what her former pupils are up to now and what industries they are in. Have they set up their own business? Are they the next Lord Sugar? If you are a former student of Business and Economics and were taught by Mrs Bentham in her 24 years of teaching in Stafford, please get in touch and let her know where you are now and how you are getting on in the world of business. To get in touch, reply to our Facebook post or e-mail her direct at [email protected]. 22/7/2016 0 Comments Pupil Information Pack 2016-17
Before we finish this term for the Summer break we want to pass on a bit of advice for those of you who play Pokémon Go. We know lots of you will have the App (as some of us do!) and it is lots of fun. Here are some tips to stay safe and uninjured when you play:
1. Keep your heads up! I know it is easy to get glued to your phone screen, especially if there's a rare close by. Please remember the lampposts, pillars and buildings will not move out of your way whilst you chase a Snorlax. 2. Please remember to stick to the rules you've been taught about keeping yourselves safe online and in real life. You won't know a lot of the people who you play alongside or battle with at Gyms. Don't be fooled by a false feeling of safety. Stick with people you know from your day-to-day life (family & friends). 3. Stick to safe spaces and appropriate times of the day. For example chasing Pokémon at 2am is not something we would advise. Please don't go adventuring through abandoned houses, building sites, remote places or out on to the M6 motorway! 4. Last but not least - please have respect for where you are. Stay out of Private Property! Remember not everybody will understand or even care that there's a Pikachu hiding in their back garden. There are places that require quiet and peace so shouting at the top of your voice 'There's a Jigglypuff over there!' will not be acceptable. Similarly avoid places where emergency work is needed to be done - hospitals, fire stations, police stations, etc. Use your common sense in these situations. Remember these key bits of advice and have fun. I hope you find a Mew or Charizard soon! Enjoy your summer and keep safe. Shona Christey Safeguarding Officer

16/6/2016 0 Comments ParentPay: Update to systemParentPay have recently updated their system. Please see below some guidance if you are having any difficulties with the new system.
In June, King Edward VI High School will be launching their very own TV channel. It will be broadcast in school and online through the school website and USTREAM. The channel will host educational videos on topics such as healthy eating, literacy, numeracy, fitness, as well as subject-specific videos and documentaries on Science, English, History, Geography, Citizenship, PSHEE, Sports and PE and more! The channel will also showcase videos from celebrities who have starred in videos targeted at secondary school students. On top of this, The Edwardian team have been busy preparing some of their own material to be broadcast on the channel. KEVI TV will be broadcast around school at break and lunchtimes but will also broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the school website at www.kevi.org.uk, as well as to visitors to the school in the waiting room.
The TV channel has been set up by The Life Channel, a company specialising in TV broadcast for schools, hospitals and businesses. Programmes will be updated regularly and it is hoped the channel will be a point of information and interest for parents and students, any time or day of the week. Organiser, Mr Lomas, said “Though small at first, myself and the students who have put this together hope that over time more of our own content will be broadcast on there to enable students in school to share their work and show what incredible talent we have at this school to parents and visitors.” Mr Christey, who will officially launch the channel on 17th June and broadcast a short welcome, said he hoped “KEVI TV would be another way for the school to engage with parents and the community and allow students who have an interest in a career in the media to explore their hidden talents.” The channel launches on Friday 17th June at 8.30am and can be watched online on the school website where you can also see the latest news and events from the school. Accelerated Reader is here! Organised by Mrs Colley you will now read new books in form. As soon as you get into your classroom you will get 15 minutes of reading time before you go to Period 1, as well as encouraging you to read it will also boost your vocabulary and reading age in English lessons. The event will go on until the end of the school year and try and help your reading abilities, after the event the tutor group with the most books read will be able to go on a trip like Alton Towers. Mrs Colley commented: ”The Year 10s are exceeding in this so far whilst many other classes have some catching up to do if they're going to win the prize! I hope you can try harder and win the trip with your tutor group.” If you have finished a book you can go on the Accelerated Reader website in form or your own time and try to complete the quiz set for you.
For more details visit the school website at www.kevi.org.uk or see the interview with Mrs Colley about AR on KEVI TV. REPORT BY BEN TRIGG |
