29/4/2016 0 Comments Circus Skills EventOn the evening of Wednesday the 27th April over 50 Year 1 & Year 2 pupils from St Lawrence, Woodseaves and Castlechurch filled King Edward’s sports hall for a fun evening of circus skills. The children (and a lot of the teachers and sports leaders) all appeared to thoroughly enjoy attempting new skills such as plate spinning, juggling and using a diablo as well as many more. The event was well attended by King Edwards’ pupils who acted as sports leaders, allowing the evening to run smoothly and the adults from the participating schools to enjoy the event and learn some new skills too. The sports leaders along with Sam Phillips & Matt were also invaluable, helping to teach the year 1 & 2 pupils new skills and encouraging them to persevere with each activity. As always the evening was well organised by Mrs Gibbs and well attended by the participating schools creating a fun environment for the pupils to develop their new skills. Overall the evening was fun for all involved and the attending pupils all appeared to enjoy the activities greatly.
29/4/2016 0 Comments Sixth Form Reach Football FinalsHaving successfully reached the 6th form District Cup final the King Edward’s team travelled to Penkridge to face Wolgarston, on their home ground.
Pushing forward the King Edwards team was caught on the counter attack and went 1-0 down, to a fabulous finish from the Wolgarston player just before ½ time. Injured Josh Wilson, acting as team manager, gave the ½ time team talk, made some tactical changes and sent the team back onto the pitch with renewed confidence after the break. Good team play and individual performances followed the break. As time went on and being 1 – 0 down the team strived for an equaliser but in the process left holes in the defence and the game finished 3-0. The team played 5 games against several schools: which resulted in us taking 4th place in our group. Our best match was against Sir Graham Balfour, as we all played technically well and took a 3:0 lead. Overall our team played exceptionally well throughout the matches and we all enjoyed our experience. We are now currently training ready to participate in our next tournament: which we hope to succeed in.

War is a form of ultimate dodge ball, where the aim is to either get the other team into their jail or knock over the opponent’s cone.
Teams were made up of both Y12 & Y13 players, all of whom got thoroughly involved in the competition. Green house was the overall winners, being victorious in all of their games against the other houses. Joel McCamley was the MVP knocking over the enemy’s cone twice, contributing to their comfortable 3 wins against the other houses. In second place was Blue house, wining 2 out of their 3 games. Third place was held by Red house winning 1 of their 3 games, and in fourth place not winning single game was yellow house! REPORT BY BRANDON McELENY, HEAD BOY 3/7/2015 Sports Day fun for CastlechurchCastlechurch came to our school for a Sports Day on Thursday 2nd July. The children participated in a range of activities including running races, throwing events and other skillful activities. The children completed a circuit full of all the events, run by the KEVI sports leaders, which they thoroughly enjoyed. While the pupils were doing the activities, the teachers recorded who won and for the running race we did finals. Everyone came and sat around the running track and supported their team representative. We then ran the races and got to see the winner out of each team. All of the children really enjoyed the day and the teachers said what a wonderful experience it was for them. Unfortunately Year 5 could not make the sports day, as they were on a trip, so they missed out on a great morning of sport. The sports leaders also had a good time looking after the children and doing different activities with them. It was a great day!

Report by Hannah James Y13 2/4/2015 Primary netball tournament at KEVITuesday 31st March saw the Year 5&6 netball tournament take place at King Edward VI sports hall. 23 rearing to go students participated in a fun and enjoyable afternoon of skills, games and lively matches.
St. Lawrence's Primary School and Castle Church Primary School worked with the sports leaders to improve their skills, passing and practice their shooting through the hoops. After a crash course in netball the two schools joined forces and split into four mixed teams. The enthusiastic teams got involved together and battled it out against one another to be the best. It was evident that the teachers and parents enjoyed the tournament too. That was due to the four sports leaders and Mrs Gibbs who dedicated their evening to ensure the children left with complete satisfaction and knowledge of the game. The skills that the children showed throughout the matches were very impressive and their improvement during the evening definitely did not go unnoticed! Well done everyone! Report by Hannah Malpass Y11 10/2/2015 Year 1 and 2 Tri Golf FestivalIt was Tuesday 10th February that over fifty ecstatic year one and two children adventured to King Edward’s sports hall to participate in a variety of fun, enjoyable and action packed tri-golf activities. There were ten activity stations set up including; golf dominoes, zone ball, treasure hunt, target practise and tunnel ball. Each of the stations featured the objective to improve the children’s golf skills.
Twenty five sports leader students from the school dedicated their evening (as well as Mrs Gibbs who organised the evening) to ensure that the children received an unforgettable experience. The children’s satisfaction with the activities is due to the hard work, effort and the team work that the sports leaders and Mrs Gibbs has put into the night. It was evident that the children had enjoyed the golf activities, not only from the beaming smiles but also from the laughter that filled the room. In addition the appreciation from the children was astounding. The cheering and thank you praises continued until the children had left the building. Report by Becki Lowndes Y13 |
