It was confirmed today that pupils and staff at King Edward VI High School raised over £500 after taking part in the annual Christmas Jumper Day to raise money for charity.
Pupils and staff came in their own clothes and Christmas jumpers on the last day of term and donated money to the ITV Text Santa appeal which this year supported Save the Children, Macmillan Cancer Care and Make A Wish Foundation. Between them they raised £523.03, all of which will be divided between the charities. Headteacher, Mr Christey, congratulated the staff and students on raising so much money. "King Edward's has always been a school which is proud to do its bit to support those in need and raise money for charitable causes. We are pleased that as a school we were able to take part in Christmas Jumper Day 2015 and make a small contribution to the massive grand total of £8.5 million. Well done to everyone and thank you for your support." On the last day of the Autumn term, the school will be holding a "Christmas Jumper and Jeans Day" to raise money for charity.
Students will be allowed to wear Christmas Jumpers and jeans (or just their own clothes) on the day with a contribution of £1 going to Save the Children as part of the Text Santa campaign. Students will take part in tutor activities and honours assemblies on this day. School will finish at 12.40pm. Spring Term starts on Monday 4th January 2016. 11/11/2015 School remembers fallen soldiers Remembrance day, a day to never forget. We will always remember the people who died or were injured fighting for the liberty of our country. The 11th November is the anniversary of the date that the hostilities of the first world war ended.
On 11th November 2015, several war veterans visited King Edward VI High School once again. They were former students at our school. Christian Ford and James Tincknell interviewed one of the veterans and he told us about his time in the forces. We discovered that he joined the armed forces because he had no choice as he was conscripted as a teenager. He was petrified when he first joined but made lots of mates and really enjoyed it after a couple of weeks. When he went out to fight he felt nervous but he had a job to do and said that he was committed to his job. We are lucky today that we do not have national conscription because men like these fought and died for our freedom. By James Tincknell and Christian Ford, Year 7 Students, parents and staff came together on Friday 25th September for the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning to help raise money for the work of the cancer charity. Staff and students provided coffee and cakes for visitors, selling tickets for a charitable cause.
The morning proved a popular success with many parents and students in attendance throughout the morning. Organiser and Lead Teacher in Technology, Mrs Katabalwa, said “Thank you so much to you all. The donated cakes, tickets bought, raffle and donations totaled up to our school charity contribution of £429.22. Thank you to all the sixth formers and students who helped during the day to host the event. Your support is greatly appreciated.” Mr Christey added his own thanks to staff, parents and students for their support, saying “It was a memorable morning and very pleasing to see so many members of the local community come together to raise money for such an important cause. Thank you to all those who took part and organised the event.” So far, over £4.5million has been raised by similar coffee mornings across the country to support the work of Macmillan, a charity who help people affected by cancer and support them in the best way they can in their time of need. On the evening of Tuesday 5th May, over 50 Year 1 & Year 2 pupils from St Lawrence, Gnosall and Castlechurch filled King Edwards' sports hall for a fun evening of circus skills. The children (and a lot of the teachers and sports leaders) all appeared to thoroughly enjoy attempting new skills such as plate spinning, juggling and using a diablo as well as many more. The event was well attended by King Edwards’ pupils who acted as sports leaders, allowing the evening to run smoothly and the adults from the participating schools to enjoy the event and learn some new skills too. The sports leaders were also invaluable, helping to teach the Year 1 & 2 pupils new skills and encouraging them to persevere with each activity. As always the evening was well organised by Mrs Gibbs and well attended by the participating schools creating a fun environment for the pupils to develop their new skills. Overall the evening was fun for all involved and the attending pupils all appeared to enjoy the activities greatly.
