Two students from King Edward VI High School have been awarded with an award after taking part in an international competition.
Eleanor Mills 9LAJ and Georgia Brown 11DLT have both received a Bronze Award after submitting entries to this year's Commonwealth Essay Competition. The students submitted their choice of poems in February for a chance to take part in the Commonwealth Day Observance in March in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen. The best entries were selected by a panel of teachers at King Edward's to represent the school at the service in London. All entries were submitted to the Commonwealth Essay Competition, but it is Eleanor and Georgia's which were selected for a Bronze Award in their respective categories. Eleanor won her award in the Junior category for her poem "United We Stand" about a race. Georgia took Bronze in the Senior category for her essay entitled "How can sport build peace in troubled communities?". Organiser and Lead Teacher in Humanities, Mr Lomas, said "Eleanor and Georgia's awards are well-deserved. They were both excellent pieces of writing and testament to their talent and skill. Well done!" Headteacher, Mr Christey, added "Eleanor and Georgia are a credit to their school and we are all very proud of their incredible achievements. Very few people in the United Kingdom have received this award, making this an even more prestigious honour. You should be very proud of your hard work and efforts". Both students have been given their certificates with copies to be displayed in school.
