17/7/2015 Headteacher's End of Term MessageTo all students, parents, carers and staff,
I would like to take this opportunity on the last day of a long and busy term to thank you all for your hard work and support this year. There have been many achievements in sport, House competitions, academic success and extra-curricular activities of which I have been incredibly proud as Headteacher. The school has seen many changes and developments throughout the year which has involved a lot of hard work and effort from our excellent students, dedicated staff and supportive parents. Our students have continuously risen to the challenge and proven what makes a King Edward VI student so special. You have worked incredibly hard and your school is immensely proud of you. You all deserve a restful Summer. I would like to thank all staff for their work this year, especially those who move on to new challenges and developments. We all wish you the best for the future. Thank you finally to parents and carers for their support to the school community throughout the year. You have played an important part in life at King Edward's and we look forward to welcoming new parents, students and staff to our community in September. I wish you all a relaxing Summer break and look forward to seeing you in the new academic year. Yours, Mr Christey
The Junior Maths Challenge is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and is aimed at those students in years 7 and 8. It is a one hour multiple choice paper that tests students’ ability to solve mathematical problems and challenges. Marks are awarded for correct answers but are deducted for wrong answers so it does encourage students to think rather than to guess.
Students at King Edward VI High School achieved 1 gold, 6 silvers and 8 bronzes in this year’s UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. Over 250,000 students from across the UK sat the Junior Maths Challenge with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate, the next 13% silver and then next 21% bronze. This year’s certificate winners are: Year 8 Isabella Terry (Gold and Best in School) Robbie Cartlidge (Silver) Jack Gulliver (Silver) Oscar Harte (Silver) Tamsin Pritchard (Silver) Lottie Lowndes (Bronze) Molly Dewsbury (Bronze) Harry Taylor (Bronze) Shannon Hendy (Bronze) Lauren Mills (Bronze) Georgia Stanyer (Bronze) Year 7 Ethan Edwards (Silver and Best in Year) Lucy Evans (Silver) Beth Bowyer (Bronze) Jessica Hedar (Bronze) A huge Congratulations to all of the students who took part. Ms Knights Assistant Headteacher 3/7/2015 Sports Day fun for CastlechurchCastlechurch came to our school for a Sports Day on Thursday 2nd July. The children participated in a range of activities including running races, throwing events and other skillful activities. The children completed a circuit full of all the events, run by the KEVI sports leaders, which they thoroughly enjoyed. While the pupils were doing the activities, the teachers recorded who won and for the running race we did finals. Everyone came and sat around the running track and supported their team representative. We then ran the races and got to see the winner out of each team. All of the children really enjoyed the day and the teachers said what a wonderful experience it was for them. Unfortunately Year 5 could not make the sports day, as they were on a trip, so they missed out on a great morning of sport. The sports leaders also had a good time looking after the children and doing different activities with them. It was a great day!
