Covid-19 Summer school programme 2021 funding

In August 2021, the school offered a Summer School programme to all Year 6s who were joining us in September 2021. The programme was funded by the Covid-19 Summer school programme funding offered to all schools by the Education & Skills Funding Agency.

The aim of the programme was to bridge the gap between Year 6 and Year 7 and allow our new pupils to get to know their new school and one another as the normal Transition programme had been severely disrupted by the pandemic.

Our Leader of Transition was able to visit most primary schools and meet with the pupils in the Summer term, however Covid restrictions at the time had prevented the mixing of different primary school bubbles.

The Summer School (or Club as we named it), offered activities in Science, PE, Geography, Art, Food & Nutrition and Outdoor Learning, as well as incorporating Literacy and Numeracy. Whilst all activities were aligned to our curriculum the main aim was team-building, building confidence and teaching social and communication skills, something which had been difficult for many pupils during two lockdowns.

Over two-thirds of the cohort were able to attend and take part and were able to make new friends, discover their new school, meet new staff and ease their anxieties and worries about starting at high school. The scheme was a huge success and we thank parents, carers and staff for their support in allowing the scheme to go ahead.

A breakdown of how the funds were allocated can be found below.
